“No OFFER. They are proceeding with another CANDIDATE. You do not fit !”
Almost everyone has heard that verdict.
Hiring managers: When you tell a candidate that they do not fit:
1) You are telling them they are not flexible enough.
2) You are telling them they can not learn quickly enough.
3) You are telling them you are not willing to make room for them.
The truth is – nobody fits exactly into anything. You yourself did not fit into your job description, but they hired you.
We are not square pegs to be fitted into square holes.
For your candidate to fit, you have to make room, you have to give them the benefit of the doubt, you yourself have to be flexible.
Thus, when you interview someone, you are not interviewing them. You are interviewing your own ability to bring them up to speed, to make room for them, your own flexibility.
So give yourself a pass, and hire that candidate.
Do you agree?
