I recently got an email from one of our SiteSwan Resellers who wanted to know the best way to address her client’s concerns about investing in a new website in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. While her client knew they needed a new website, they were hesitant to move forward with everything going on in the country. She wanted to know how to respond?
Here was my response… (and it worked)
Marketing is always important to a business, but it’s even more important in uncertain times. Looking back at our country’s history, including the 2008 recession, the businesses that continued to invest in marketing, even in these troubled times, we’re the ones that not only survived but thrived!
The businesses that stopped investing in marketing cut off the lifeblood to their business – they became invisible, leads stopped coming in, sales tanked, and they lost customers. Most of these businesses were unable to dig themselves out of the hole when things got better.
Even for those businesses that have been forced to temporarily close their doors due to “stay at home” orders, a website is the only connection to their customers and the community. A website allows these businesses to continue to communicate with their customers, stay relevant, share important updates and even sell their products and services online. Websites have become the lifeblood for small businesses!
It turns out this simple but honest response was enough to seal the deal and win the client over. They went ahead and moved forward with a new website.
If you’re running a web design agency and find yourself in a similar situation, I encourage you to not only use this response for your own clients but adopt the same mentality for yourself. If you continue to market your own business, reach out to potential customers, generate leads, build demo sites and help your existing clients get through these troubled times, you yourself will end up way ahead in the long run.
